Patricia McKenna seeks green party leadership

Patricia McKenna is looking for the 50 nominations required to throw her hat into the ring for the party leadership.

I think she had a serious case of sour grapes when she failed to get elected. I couldn't believe her standing outside the mansion house saying she voted no to the deal with FF. I doubt she would have done that had she been looking at a seat in government.

But more worryingly is that she is a bit of a loop-the-loop, saying No to MMR vaccinations etc.

Do the Green Party in government need a loose cannon leader who is not in government? I don't think so.

Thanks but no thanks Trish.

heartbroken

Seth Godin writes this week:

"Smart people are lucky: they can hold seemingly contradictory ideas in their head while they look more deeply into the facts and make good decisions... it's called nuance"

The greens are now in contradiction and the backlash is here.

Its been heartbreaking watching Sargent resign. There is no question he sacrificed himself for the party. It needed blood if it was to go in with Fianna Fail. If it couldn't get theirs it had to be ours.

I'm looking forward to seeing what junior ministry he gets though. Lets just say I wouldn't want to be the FF minister who has Trevez looking over his shoulder for the next five years :)

Don't Vote Fianna Fail in Dublin North

Yeah you know where I got that headline but I'm not linking here ;)

Fianna Fail have used Fingal as a dumping ground for super dump, super sewer, super prison.

The giant landfill near Lusk will be built on top of a massive untapped underground water source. This water source will be contaminated if this goes ahead. Landfill is not a solution. The private incinerator company pulling out of Ireland complained excessively low landfill charges as a reason - we are incentivising dumping . Not that I have much sympathy for the incinerator operators.

Due to rapid population increase Dublin North should be a five seater. Thousands of people will be disenfranchised after this election. This people are the ones waiting on busses, shcools, local jobs, hospitals etc. Consider:

Swords is bigger than Waterford
Rush/Lusk bigger than killkenny

I will be voting Green One and Two
with Fianna Fail, the PDs and Immigration Control bottom of the ballot

There's a trend:

The below clip is also relevant to last time Dublin North Fianna Fail Candidate G.V. Wright as Brian Greene points out:

Ready for Government - Bí Ullamh.

You hear the phrase "Ready for government" a lot these days. As far as I can tell it means you promise not to raise corporation tax. And if you're really really ready you promise to cut income tax and stamp duty. However the Greens have made an even more powerful statement of readiness - Eamon Ryan is wearing a tie:

ready for government: Eamon Ryan wearing a tie

Bí Ullamh.

Ton of computer scrap contains more gold than 17 tons of gold ore

From foreign policy magazine: Computers are not just wires and plastic but a source of highly valuable metals, such as gold, copper, and aluminium. One ton of computer scrap contains more gold than 17 tons of gold ore. Circuit boards can be 40 times richer in copper than typical copper ore. In countries such as China labourers work these 21st century e-mines, vast dumps of electrical equipment. They make $2-$4 dollars a day.

It is helping pull some of these people out of poverty by recycling western waste but they work amongst toxic chemicals that leech into the ground. Lead, mercury, and cadmium are a computer’s most common toxic substances. When melted down, the machines release even more toxins into the air, ground, and water.

If you have old PCs for recycling consider donating them to Irish charity camara.
